Bruton Museum Casespace - A quest for bees in Bhutan by Paula Carnell

Paula, head of the bee team at the Newt in Somerset, travelled to Bhutan in 2018, and found a country in harmony with its bees. Travelling cross-country to meet beekeepers, spotting wild bees and visiting traditional honey houses, Paula found a paradise for bees amid chemical-free farming, crop rotation and thousands of miles of wild flowers and forests. This Buddhist country, whose inhabitants mostly don’t eat honey, have adapted to Apis melifera, and can teach us about putting the bees’ needs ahead of our own at this time of mass extinction of the Earth’s pollinators.
